For many, it seems counter-intuitive to be investing when footfall will be so low. However, it may have significant benefits. It is obvious that the most financially beneficial objective is to get customers through the door as soon as possible to start the increase of footfall earlier. Customer confidence is a big part of that and having upgraded seating will increase that confidence and show that you are doing everything possible to protect them.

Additionally, closing a location for refurbishment in normal circumstances constitutes a significant opportunity loss to the business. To carry out such a refurbishment when the venue is already closed means only the cost of the refurbishment need be part of the calculation. The opportunity loss is non-existent right now. Finally, one of the costs involved in refurbishments is that it has to be done in a very short timescale to reduce the time the venue is closed. This has cost implications and affects the efficiency of the reupholstery. If done while a venue is closed, the work can be done in the most efficient way possible, improving the cost per seat.

Obviously, the window for carrying out this work is relatively short. Those venues that adopt this approach will attract the earliest customers and therefore will need the additional works earliest. We will manage requests on a first come, first served basis.
